Some FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What if something happens during the course of the year and I have to change my giving amount?

Life happens. We get it. It is not an unusual circumstance for giving amounts to be shifted through the year... both in increase and by decrease. If a shift occurs for you, simply contact the office and we can make the adjustment.

How do I know if I am on track?

Simply call or email the office. We can quickly look up the amount you’ve pledged and compare it to the amount you’ve actually given.

I pay for classes, workshops, and I buy books and other items in the Centre’s store, I also participate in the benefits program, don’t those activities count as giving?

Those activities support the Centre, yet from a legal standpoint, the answer to the question is no. When you receive a product or service in exchange for money that is a purchase, not a charitable contribution.

What happens to the funds once they’ve been donated?

The funds go into our general operating fund. From the fund we pay for the basic needs of the centre, rent, hydro, building supplies, office supplies, program expenses, and salaries.

Thank you for your Commitment to the growth and health of your Spiritual Centre!

What does it mean to STEP up?

Stewardship is a commitment you make to your spiritual home. To ensure fiscal responsibility, the Board of Trustees of the Centre for Spiritual Living Toronto needs to know what financial base it has to work from to budget effectively. By signing up to be a steward you are stating your expected offering to the Centre over the course of the year.

I am already a pre-authorized giver, am I a steward of the centre?

No. Your commitment to the financial health of this Centre by pre-authorizing your contributions in the past will NOT carry over into the new year. We ask that you please fill out a new form to maintain your stewardship of the Centre so that we may keep our records current from year to year.

You can maintain your current level of giving, or you can choose now to make a larger commitment and increase the amount you give.

How do I determine an amount to give?

The amount you give is entirely up to you. Many people in our Centre believe in and participate through a consciousness of tithing, which means they contribute 10% of their gross income to the place where they receive their spiritual food. The most important aspect of giving is that it feels good to you. Giving is an act of love, not obligation. What do you feel the centre offers you spiritually? Decide what that is worth to you and give in a way that supports that value.
